Book exhibition, Essay Writing Competitions, & Havan Yajna on Modi Jayanti Organized at M.M Modi College

Patiala, 21 October: Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala today organised a Hawan Yajna on the occasion of 146th Modi Jayanti. A week long academic and literary programmes and competitions were designed to pay obeisance to Rai Bahadur Seth Multani Mal Modi. The member of Management Committee of the College Prof. Surindra Lal and all staff members attended the ceremony.

While remembering Rai Bahadur Seth Multani Mal Modi, Prof. Surindra Lal, Member Managing Committee said that society should be thankful to his visionary spirit and the commitment to the upliftment of society through education. He told that Seth Gujjar Mal Modi Ji was ahead of his times in establishing this institution which is committed to higher standards of education and learning.

During the week-long celebrations under the supervision of Dr. Khushvinder Kumar, Principal of the college an essay writing competition was organized by the departments of English, Punjabi and Hindi collectively. The students submitted their essays on topics of contemporary relevance such as Post-covid lifestyles, the role of literature in shaping human personality and contemporary life styles and ecological challenges. Dr. Gurdeep Singh Sandhu, head, Punjabi department said that this competition was organized to provide a platform to our students for creative and constructive writing. A large number of students from different departments participated in this event. In this competition first position in English language was won by Dilasha Malhi (BA-II) in Punjabi language by Ramneek Kaur (M.Com-I) and in Hindi language by Archana Shah (BSc-III).

The departments of English and Punjabi also organized a book exhibition in collaboration with the Publication Bureau, Punjabi University, Patiala and with the support of SLM publishers, Patiala. Thousands of books of English and Punjabi literature (Fiction and Non- fiction) and academic books were exhibited in this event to provide classical texts on nominal rates to the students. The exhibition was formally inaugurated by Vice Principal Prof (Mrs) Shailendra Sidhu. She motivated the students to develop habit of reading good and inspiring literature to excel in life. The faculty members and students purchased hundreds of books and appreciated the exhibition.

   All the staff members of the college were present in the Havan Yajna ceremony.
