Ajay Verma (The Mirror Time)
To mark the international literacy day, Department of Education, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab organized extempore competition. Sharing the rationale of celebrating the day, Dr Harneet Billing said that the day aims to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies, and the need for intensified efforts towards more literate societies.
Ms. Pratima Kumari, coordinator of the event shared the rules of the competition. Every participants was required to share his/her views on the topic that they choose. They could express their views in any language. The themes of the talk were education centric and gave ample opportunity to the participants to present their views in a critical manner. About 25 students from various batches of the Department participated in the talk.
The participants shared their personal perspectives on the topics. They gave a tough competition to each other. Ramlal from Batch 2020, and Taranpreet Singh and Sukhvir (Batch 2019) bagged the top three positions.
Prof Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Academic Affairs appreciated the efforts of the participants and congratulated the department for their efforts to mark the day.
Prof Prit Pal Singh, Vice Chancellor of the University applauded the students for taking the initiative and participating in the true spirit of the competition.
The day concluded with a vote of thanks.
