The Department of Education organised a training session on ‘First Aid’ for teachers trainees. Introducing the resource person, Dr Suman Preet Kaur, Assistant Professor in Education and coordinator of the session reiterated that knowledge of first aid is essential for everyone as it helps to attend the patients in crucial times and to save the vital time in saving the patients from clutches of death.
The session was very well delivered by Dr Lakshay from Government Hospital, Fatehgarh Sahib. He shared the basics of first aid and gave demonstrations of giving CPR, artificial breath and clearing the wind pipe of patients. He elaborated the ABC process of saving a person and emphasised on to ensure that the process is done withinin 10 seconds. After explaining the individual activities under ABC, he described the protocol of using them in an organised way collectively. He also gave a check list to the audiences that needs to be checked before proceeding to act on the patient. He concluded his talk by reminding the audience that the foremost act is to seek medical help at the earliest and to work as a team to avoid panic and tiredness. He also role played one of the actual case of an accident victim, to summarise the session learnings.
Dr Harneet Billing, Department In charge expressed her gratitude to the resource person for sharing his knowledge and expertise with the University students in a very simple and interactive way.
The Vice Chancellor of the University Dr Prit Pal Singh urged the department to organise such session for the students so that they can develop competence to help others in distress.
It was a great value addition to the skills of the students and participants.
