SGGS WORLD UNIVERSITY ORGANISES FACULTY INDUCTION PROGRAMME

Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib organized a two-day faculty induction program for the newly recruited faculty members. Dr. Harneet Billing, Coordinator of the program informed that the objectives of the program are to sensitize and motivate the faculty to adopt learner-centered approaches, ICT integrated learning, and new pedagogic approaches to teaching-learning assessment tools in higher education and about the process of curriculum designing and strategies of student assessment and evaluation. The induction program will also address the need of undertaking research and publication for professional development.

The programme was initiated with the talk of Dr. Tejinder Singh, Associate Professor UBS, Panjab University Chandigarh on the theme of Technological interventions for learner-centered teaching. He shared his views on the need for technology for effective delivery of the content and the latest digital tools that can be used for curriculum delivery. He gave a demonstration of various delivery and assessment tools that can be used by teachers to enhance student engagement in the class and also for formative assessment along with the delivery of the lesson.

Dr. Jasvir Kaur Chahal, Former Dean Faculty of Education, Panjab University Chandigarh in her talk on the theme ‘Student – Teacher relations and Professional Ethics for Teacher’ discussed the need to define appropriate student-teacher relationships in a class. She also elaborated on the professional ethics and professional code of conduct that need to be adopted by a teacher. She shared the titles of a few books and experiences of her own life that can help them design their profession. She also addressed the queries of the participant regarding classroom problems.

The second day of the induction program began with the talk of Prof S.S. Billing, Dean of Academic Affairs of the University; he discussed the process of designing the curriculum and the evaluation strategies that should be followed by a teacher. He discussed in detail the academic calendar of the university and the schemes of various academic programmes. He also discussed various problems that are often faced by the teachers during the curriculum delivery.

Prof. Navdeep Kaur, Head of Department of Computer Science, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib explained ‘How to Maintain Academic records’ for effective appraisal of the academic works. She also explained the University ERP system, for uploading student-related information and evaluation records. The hands-on training was also given.

Speaking on “Academic Resources for Curriculum Transaction”, Prof C.Rajesh, Head, Department of Biotechnology, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib shared an exhaustive list of databases and e-resources that can be used by the teachers to prepare their content. He also shared the ethical issues that need to be kept in mind while using these resources.

Prof. Tejbir Singh, Head, Department of Physics, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib discussed the “Basis of Research and Publication Ethics” with the participants. He elaborated on the need of pursuing research for a teacher, as it helps them to innovate and address the problems of their academic subjects. He ended his talk by highlighting the ethical issues that need to be kept in mind.

Addressing the participants, Prof Prit Pal Singh, Vice Chancellor of the University congratulated the participants on joining the noble profession of teaching and urged them to fulfill their duties with responsibility and dedication. He also shared with them the vision of the University and made their pledge to abide by the same.

The participants expressed their gratitude to the University administration for organizing the program and acquainting them with the essence of the University.
