Seminar to Mark Legal Services’ Awareness Week Conducted at Multipurpose School

Patiala, November 10: As a part of Legal Services’ Week being observed from 8th November to 14th November, a Seminar/Legal Awareness programme was held with teachers, students and Anganwadi workers by District Legal Services Authority, Patiala in collaboration with Government Co Ed Multipurpose Senior Secondary Smart School, Patiala.

During the programme, the gathering was made aware of PAN India Awareness and Outreach Programme and ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ by Ms Parminder Kaur, CJM/Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Patiala. They were also made aware about the categories of persons who are entitled for Free legal Services under section 12 of Legal Services Authority Act, 1987 i.e. a member of SC/ST, a victim of trafficking in human beings or beggar, a woman, a child, a victim of a mass disaster, an industrial workman and a person in custody and persons whose annual income is more not than three lakhs. Besides, they were apprised about the mode of legal services and how can legal services be availed. Apart from this, they were sensitized about NALSA and Victim Compensation Schemes, NALSA(Free Legal Services to the Victims of Acid Attacks) Scheme, 2015,  Toll free no. 1968, Permanent Lok Adalat(PUS), advantages of mediation, benefits of lok adalts and about upcoming National Lok Adalat to be held on 11.12.2021. They were also made aware about the main provisions of Domestic Violence Act in detail and Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act 2013 by Ms Parminder Kaur, CJM/Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Patiala.   

            On this occasion, Ms Nisha Rishi Advocate who is the resource person also addressed the gathering. Persons present there were sensitized about National Commission for Women and how can a complaint be made to NCW. Further, they were sensitized about Free Legal Services, Dowry Act, Child Marriage and Senior Citizens Act by Ms Nisha Rishi Advocate. Dr. Asha Kiran Lecturer also addressed the gathering about the role of education in gender sensitization. Ms Roopwant Kaur, CPO, Institutional Care and Incharge of Sakhi One Stop Center made aware about functioning of Sakhi One Stop Center and how to approach the above said center and counseling being provided here to sort out family dispute. They were also sensitized that how to secure data and pictures on Facebook and Instagram. They were also sensitized about cyber pulling and child abuse.

    Apart from this, a natak ‘Mera Ghar Tera Ghar’, presenting the status of woman in our society,was also played by the students of the school. On this occasion, books about the laws for women and pamphlets on free legal services were also distributed among the teachers, students and anganwari workers. Dr Tota Singh Chahal, Principal,  Dr. Pushwinder Kaur, Lecturer and Sh. Gurmeet Singh CPO, Institutional Care were also present during this event. About 200 persons attended this seminar.
