PUNJAB GOVERNMENT MAKES EFFORTS TO MAKE PRISONERS GOOD CITIZEN-ADGP

Patiala, November 15: The ‘Punjab Jail Olympics-2021’ Games, launched by the Punjab Government to improve the behavior of the prisoners by inculcating a sense of sportsmanship in the minds of the prisoners, kick started here, today, by Punjab ADGP (Jails) Mr. Praveen Kumar Sinha at the Central Jail, Patiala.

In his address, Mr. Praveen Kumar Sinha said that in order to give the inmates a chance to become good citizens through sports spirit, Punjab Jail Olympic Games, were being conducted in variuos Jails of Punjab by dividing into different zones. He further said that under the leadership of the Chief Minister Mr Charanjit Singh Channi and as per the directions of Jail Minister, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, taking another step towards jail reforms, Jail Radio would soon be started in prisons of Punjab.

Mr. Sinha said that a very good atmosphere has been created in the jails of Punjab keeping in view the security, detention and reform. While applauding the Jail Superintendent Shivraj Singh Nandgarh and his team, the ADGP said that the jails would play a vital role in the improvement of inmates through the Olympic Games.

Punjab Prison Authorities added that the Punjab Jails have been divided into 4 zones; Patiala, Amritsar, Kapurthala and Faridkot and the events being held included male prisoners’ tug of war, volleyball, badminton, athletics, 100 meters and 400 meters, long jump and Kabaddi competitions including women’s chess, Badminton, 60 meters race and shot put. Inmates of Central Jail Patiala emerged victorious in the tug of war competition, today. The Central Jail inmates also emerged victorious in the 100 meters race.

On this occasion, DIG Jails Mrs Amneet Kondal, Patiala Zone DIG Surinder Singh Saini, Principal Jail Training School Gurcharan Singh Dhaliwal, Former Principal Rakesh Sharma, SP (City) Harpal Singh, District Sports Officer Shaswat Rajdan, Additional Superintendent Rajdeep Singh Brar, H.S. Bal, Deputy Superintendent Baljinder Singh Chattha, DSP Sukhminder Singh Chauhan, Mohit Aggarwal, Harjot Singh Kler, Medical Officer Dr. Ayush Bhatlan, Rajneesh from Round Glass Foundation, Monica Chawla from ACCP Cops were also present.
