Deputy Commissioner Visits Mandis of Patiala District and Takes Stock of Procurement Operations

Patiala, October 23: Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Hans paid a surprise visit to Grain Market Sirhind Road Patiala and Shermajra (Sangrur Bypass), Mandi, in Patiala, today, and reviewed the ongoing procurement operations. He asked the government agencies to ensure procurement of paddy within 24 hours of its arrival in the mandis. He also directed that lifting of procured paddy from mandis should be done as well.
The Deputy Commissioner asked the inspectors of the procurement agencies not to cause any inconvenience to the farmers and to procure their produce immediately after the arrival and followed by proper cleaning of the crop. Mr. Sandeep Hans also appealed to the farmers to bring their dry products in the market so that they can get a fair price for their products and they do not have to sit in the mandi.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration was fully vigilant to make the procurement operations smooth and uninterrupted and ensured that the farmers bringing their produce in the mandis would not face any problem.
Meanwhile, Mr. Sandeep Hans further said that out of 109 mandis established in the Patiala district during the current season, paddy has started arriving in 106 mandis. Out of which, 461975 metric tonnes of paddy have been procured to date, and out of this, 458729 metric tonnes of paddy have been procured so far.
Divulging the agency-wise details, he said that out of this procurement, 185971 metric tonnes of paddy have been procured by Pungrain, 114182 metric tonnes by Markfed, 102036 metric tonnes by PUNSUP, 55801 metric tonnes by Punjab Warehousing Corporation, and 739 metric tonnes by FCI. He said that the lifting was also going on as well and 100 percent lifting of paddy had been done, that was purchased in the last 72 hours and so far Rs.661.84 crore had been paid to the farmers against the payment of the purchase.
District Food & Supplies Controller, Major Gurpreet Singh Kang, and officials of various procurement agencies and Mandi Board were also present on the occasion.
