WHEAT SCAM: PUNJAB STATE FOOD COMMISSION SEEKS DETAILED REPORT FROM FOOD & CIVIL SUPPLIES DEPT WITHIN A FORTNIGHT
Punjab State Food Commission has sought a detailed report from the Food and Civil Supplies department in wheat scam within a fortnight.
Sharing the information, Chairman Punjab State Food Commission, Mr. DP Reddy, said that it has been coming to the notice of the commission through media reports that Jasdev Singh, Inspector Food Supplies Deptt. Who is the main accused in missing wheat scam case of Jandiala Guru (Amritsar) siphoned off crores of rupees given as MSP on wheat that was neither brought to mandis nor purchased. Fake entries for the purchase of 87,100 quintals of wheat valued at Rs 20 crores were made and it was shown to have been transported to godowns in Jandiala Guru.
He further said that the accused Inspector, Jasdev Singh, who is believed to have escaped to Dubai, was allegedly in cahoots with Amritsar based trader Ravinder Singh Bunty, who was arrested by the CBI recently. Punjab State Food Commission has taken a serious note of the matter and issued a notice to Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department to send a detailed report within a fortnight.
The commission has further issued advice to the Food Supplies department to take strict disciplinary action against delinquent officials and recover the loss caused to the State exchequer and to put systems in place (administrative and technological) to prevent recurrence of this type of scams.
