The Punjab the Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Mr. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa congratulating Fish Farmers on the occasion of National Fish Farmers Day has said that Punjab State is making steady progress in Fish Farming Sector under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. In a statement issued here today Mr. Bajwa said that despite of Covid-19 pandemic 1246 hectare new area is brought under fish farming during 2020-21 and 787 tons of shrimp was produced by farmers. He said that Punjab is producing 132171 tons of fish from 16440 hectare area.

The Minister also said that despite of Covid 19 regular shrimp was supplied uninterruptedly and shrimp seed was also supplied to the farmers as per their requirement. He also said that1387 lac shrimp fish seed was produced from the government fish farms.

The Minister said that to save, support and promote Fish Farmers in the Punjab state during Covid 19 Shrimp Farming was done by the farmers with the assistance of the Fisheries department. The Farmers also got 450/- per kg for their produce during this period which is a record in itself.

Mr.Bajwa said that the state government is focusing on strengthening infrastructure and improving marketing of Fish. He said that new technology such as the Circulatory Aquaculture system, Biotechnology is being adopted to increase fish production. Apart from this auto rickshaws and refrigerator vehicles were being provided to the fish sellers.

The Minister further said that in the saline water affected districts special focus is being laid to produce suitable fish varieties in those areas.

The Minister once again congratulating the fish farmers on the National Fish Farmers Day appealed to the fish farmers to avail the government schemes related to fish farming to increase their production and income.
