WORLD UNIVERSITY ORGANISES A WORKSHOP ON MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL WELL BEING

Under the Fit India movement, a three-day workshop on ‘Mental and Emotional Well Being’ was organised for NSS volunteers. Dr Harneet Billing, Programme coordinator (NSS) said that the present times are playing tough on the minds of Youth resulting in mental and emotional Fatigues. It is the need of the hour that the NSS volunteers are trained to maintain their own mental health and work as ambassadors to create awareness in the society for the same. This three-day workshop was conceived to achieve the same vision.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr Naveen Kumar, Student counsellor and Psychologist. He shared his views and expertise on “addressing mental health concerns in adolescent”. He defined the key terms associated with mental health and enumerated the reasons of its deterioration. He also shared a few case study to sensitise the students about these grave concerns. A practical session on exercises to main mental health was also performed. The volunteers shared their problems with the resource person.
A film on Emotional Well being was screened on the second day of the workshop. The volunteers were encouraged to identify the key concerns addressed in the film and the methodology adopted by the characters to deal with the same. After the screening, a discussion was held to provide a direction to the students. The volunteers were asked to sketch down their learnings.
On the third day Dr Simarjeet Kaur, Assistant Professor, Akal University, Talwandi Sabho conducted an interactive session on the theme ‘Make Mental Health for all: A global Priority’. Deliberations on a number of real-life cases were held. The volunteers opened up with their problems and a long counselling session was held. She stressed on spending time with family, to avoid social isolation and to increase gratitude level. She emphasised that it is essential to trace back to our roots to stay mentally sound. Concluding her talk, she stressed on penting out the emotions and sharing of thoughts with each other.
Dr Pritpal Singh , Vice Chancellor of the University interacted with the volunteers and expressed satisfaction on the learning of the workshop. He congratulated the NSS unit for addressing a key issue.
