Under Tandrust Punjab Mission COVID Testing camps are to be organized for Food Business Operators (FBOs) in the district, informed Deputy Commissioner, Girish Dayalan.
Reviewing the sampling/ testing status in the district, he informed that it has been decided to further escalate sampling. Weekend camps would be organized area/ marketwise where in sampling of all FBOs and their staff would be undertaken. The samples would be taken of the hotel/restaurant staff, dairies, grocery/kiryana stores, vegetable/fruit sellers as well as the small vendors/rehriwalas.

“The only way to defeat Covid-19 is aggressive testing. We are covering containment zones , contacts of positive patients, walk-in patients, suspected patients, international travellers, domestic passengers, government offices involving public dealing but as the city and state have gradually relaxed lockdown restrictions, the COVID testing is being scaled up to cover maximum population”, informed Deputy Commissioner.
Food Sector being one of the most essential services providers has footfall from every household. So, to clamp down on localized flare-ups we are commencing the sampling /testing drive in this sector. Soon, other areas of services sector like banks, transport companies, communication/ consultancy, insurance and the like would be covered.
The bus terminals, construction sites and slums would also be covered in a parallel drive, said he.
Besides we are also going to extend on-site testing facility for Institutions/ Organizations with sizeable number of employees. The concerned organization can tie up with the local SDMs to schedule the deployment of team in their premises for sampling of the entire staff in staggered manner.
Deputy Commissioner made an appeal to all the FBOs to avail the benefit of testing drive. The COVID negative staff will not only ensure the safety of one and all but also build customer confidence resulting in increased sales, said he.
Pertinently, as of now nearly 67,000 samples have been culled for testing in the district.
