PN- International webnar on ‘Guru Teg Bahadar Bani : Gurmat Sangeet Perspective’ Concluded

Punjabi university Patiala has chalked out special series of programs to mark the 400th birth anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadar Sahib ji. Under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Dr. B S Ghuman, the Department of Gurmat Sangeet organized a two day international webinar of Bani Guru Teg Bahadar Sahib: Gurmat Sangeet Perspective. This seminar attracted a large number of scholars from different streams of knowledge. PadamShri S, Surinder Singh “SinghBandhu” presided over the webinar on both days. Dr. Jaswant Singh from Canada discussed in detail, the relation of ragas and Guru Teg Bahadar Bani in the context of the gist of Gurbani. Dr. Harwinder Singh, Panjab University talked n detail about impact of gurbani on human being.

Dr. Paramvir Singh Head Department of Encyclopedia discussed various bani references addressing human being to get communion with the Akal-purakh. Dr. A P Singh performed Guru Teg Bahadar ragas with traditional instruments of Gurmat Sangeet and discussed the experience of composing the bani in prescribed ragas. He uttered that the impact and influence of bani that grips the combination of various musical elements being used and took the performer to the next level of performance. Gracing the webinar Prof. Kartar Singh, Director Gurmat Sangeet Academy Sri Anandpur Sahib, discussed his seasoned and tried shabad compositions of Guru Teg Bahadar Bani in prescribed ragas of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Principal Amritpal Singh Kalka discussed the tradition of singing Guru Teg Bahadar Bani composition by traditional kirtankars of the tradition. He described the impact of bani on general saadh-sangat also. Dr. Jasbir Kaur principal Gurmat College discussed the historical perspective and recited various bani compositions in prescribed ragas. Dr. Gurmit Singh Sidhu, chairperson Guru Gobind Singh Chair disscussed the role of music elements even in Ragmukat bani of the Guru. He advised the participants and researcher to locate the role of music in the traditional recitation of Slokas of Guru Teg Bahadar Sahib on the concluding of Sri Akhand Path Sahib. He marked the involvement of all the sangat while reciting the slokas. Dr Kanwaljit Singh incharge told that the Gurmat Sangeet department has uploaded the audio-video tracks of 31 Mukh ragas of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, recited with traditional string instruments Rabab, Saranda, Taus, Dilruba, in English and Punjabi for the researchers and students of Gurmat Sangeet. The department has also uploaded HD quality of Tanpuras for music practice session of the students who do not have required instrument at their place.
Dr. Yashpal Sharma Dean Faculty of Culture & Fine Arts thanked all the participants, researchers, scholars and worthy vice-chancellor Dr. B S Ghumn for continuous patronage and support to the activities of Gurmat Sangeet Department. He also congratulate the vice-chancellor Dr. B S Ghuman for starting his second round of Vice-chancellorship from tomorrow. Dr. B S Ghuman told that it is a delighting coincidence that his first program on Punjabi University Campus was in the Department of Gurmat Sangeet and now while entering second phase of his tenure he is again attending international webinar of the same department. This webinar was directly streamed on Facebook and YouTube platforms also. A large number of listeners joined the webinar. Some notable participants included Dr. Kulwinderdip Kaur, Dr. Poonam Sharma Jalandhar, Dr. Jyoti Sharma, Dr. AP Singh, Prof. Swarleen Caur, S. Prabjot Singh, Sh. Sanjay Bhardhwaj, Monika Arora, Mohamad Habib, Dr. Ritu Bhardhwaj, Prof. Narinderjeet Kaur, Dr. Alankar Singh, Dr. Kuldep Kumar, S. Bhupinder Singh and Gurtej Singh Sidhu and others graced the function with their online presence.
