Multani Mal Modi College successfully organized Cyclothon

A Cyclothon was organized by local Multani Mall Modi College, Patiala in association with the Petroleum Conservation Research Association, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India. The event was dedicated to the 75th Anniversary of Independence of the country as ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. 350 cyclists participated in this Cyclothon.

College Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar formally welcomed all the guests and cyclists and apprised them of the human role being played in the current environmental crisis and conservation of fossil fuel. The rally was flagged off by Sh. Chandra Gaind (IAS), Divisional Commissioner, Patiala. He expressed his happiness over the organization of this Cyclothon by Modi College and congratulated all the cyclists who participated in it. He appealed to all present to start from themselves where they should be concerned about the environment and also make efforts for its conservation. He said energy saved is energy produced. The guests of honour Patiala Mayor Sanjeev Sharma Bittu, DSP (Detective) Sh. Ajaypal Singh and Additional Director (Petroleum Conservation Research Association) Sh. Sanjeev Kumar Verma also paddled to participate.

The Cyclothon started with the presentation of a Nukkad Natak on environment directed by ‘Desi Rangmanch Chandigarh’ group. College Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar and Chief Guest flagged off the convoy at 6:30 am. Accompanied by various slogans related to the environment, conservation of natural resources, low fuel consumption, and conservation, the caravan from Modi College to Fountain Chowk, Sewa Singh Thikri Wala Chowk, YPS Chowk to NIS Chowk and returned to the college. On this 5 km track, players of the Punjabi University Inter-university cycling team volunteered to help the cyclists in case of exigency under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Nishan Singh, Dean Sports of the College.  The arrival of the cycling caravan to the college was warmly welcomed and refreshments were provided. The celebrities of the area participated in this Cyclothon, the students of Modi College, and local cycling clubs also participated in large numbers. To make this event a success, college teaching, non-teaching, and NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, and Bharat Scout and Guides played a special role. College Registrar Dr. Ashwani Sharma and Controller of Examination Dr. Ajit Kumar proposed a vote of thanks to the guests and participants.
