International Mathematics Day Celebrated with School Students by M. M. Modi College, Patiala

The Post-graduate Department of Mathematics, Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala organized special lectures and scientific events for the celebration of the International Mathematics day with students of various schools to aware them of the significance of math in professional and day to day life, for developing logic, reason and scientific temperament. This year the theme of the day is ‘Mathematics Unites’ which signifies that it is a common language we all have and a common subject with which to find one another.

College Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar who himself is a renowned mathematician also addressed the students and said that this year UNESCO is also focusing on ‘Mathematics for action supporting science-based decision making. Our college is initiating a dialogue with the school students to engage them with the current knowledge and ignite their passion and interest in the art and science of mathematics. He said that creativity, originality, critical thinking, and logical reasoning are the core of mathematics and Mathematics can interpret the complex phenomenon of human problems.

Dr. Varun Jain, Head of the Department of Mathematics told that this year our department visited five schools and interacted with students about mathematics as a career and how we may learn difficult concepts and theories of mathematics in innovative and with play-based activities. He said that for this objective the department has chosen Government Senior Secondary Smart School, Tripuri, Patiala, Government Girls Senior Secondary School, NPHC Patiala, Government Senior Secondary School, Bahadurgarh, Government Senior Secondary Smart School, Model Town, Patiala, and Government Senior Secondary Smart School, Civil Lines, Patiala.

The Faculty members of the Mathematics Department, Dr. Chetna Sharma, Dr. Anu Bala, Prof Jaspreet Kaur, Prof Simerpreet Kaur, Prof Rajwinder Kaur, Prof. Amandeep Kaur, Prof. Harvinder Kaur, Dr. Richa, Prof Chetna Gupta, Prof. Manpreet Kaur, and Prof. Jarmanjeet Kaur visited the schools and interacted with the students. They discussed with them the innovative ways of learning Mathematics.
